Yuri Foreman 32(9)-2, through Facebook, has just announced his retirement. His statement is as follows
“Dear Friends! Unknowingly I signed a very harmful contract regarding my boxing carrier. I tried all possible ways to free myself from it, but nothing else I can do, than announce my retirement from boxing. So from now I’m on to bigger and better things. Much blessings”
Foreman is a former junior middleweight champion who was scheduled to appear on the Cotto/Martinez undercard against Jorge Melendez 28(26)-3-1 in just under 3 weeks. Foreman at one point was the target of Manny Pacquiao when Pacquiao was planning a move to junior middleweight. Pacquiao would face Antonio Margarito, while Foreman faced Miguel Cotto in Yankee Stadium. A knee injury would stop Foreman after 9 rounds.
Foreman is of Belarus-Israeli descent and doubles as a rabbi when he’s not boxing. I wish him all the luck in the world with whatever is next for him in life.
Dibella and Arum will most likely race to find a solid replacement for the New Yorker, or perhaps bump Melendez off and promote Felix Verdejo to the main card.
