WIBA Light Flyweight Champion Jolene Blackshear is on the road to redemption and her first stop could be in her hometown of San Diego. Blackshear will face New York fighter Susan Reno (1-2-1) in the headliner of a fight card taking place, Sept. 4, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Blackshear comes into the fight back-to-back losses against Maria Suarez and NABF Female Light Flyweight champion Kenia Enriquez. As for Reno, she lost to Amaris Quintana via decision back in April.
This should be an interesting match. Despite winning only one of her first four bouts, Reno’s other three fights were close enough to where she could have walked away with the win. She still has a lot of untapped potential and this match could be one that propels her to the next level.
Blackshear has an interesting story. She made her pro debut back in 1995, going 4-2 in her first six fights, winning the IFBA Flyweight title in the process. She took a nine-year break and returned in 2009 where she beat Melissa McMorrow via majority decision.
Blackshear’s last two fights are just setbacks that come to every competitor in their careers. If she can snap this two-fight losing streak and continue to win, Blackhear’s story would be one of the classic comeback stories that have filled the annals of boxing history.
Enriquez and Haley Pasion are also scheduled to fight on the card, though their opponents are not known at this time.
