Carolina Rodriguez retains IBF title

It’s one thing to win a championship, but it’s another to defend it. Chilean fighter Carolina Rodriguez learned that first hand when she stepped into the ring against Dayana Cordero at the Polideportivo Estadio Nacional.

After a ten-round war Rodriguez (13-0) earned the split-decision over Cordero (13-5, 9 KOs).

Both fighters traded good, technical shots in the first two rounds.Rodriguez was the aggressor throughout the fight. In the eighth, she started to show some fatigue while Cordero managed to get in some counter punches. Both fighters maintained a solid pace toward the end, with the Chilean crowd singing for Rodriguez.

This marks Cordero’s first loss in five fights. Although Rodriguez picked up the win, I wouldn’t be surprised to see these two face each other again down the road.

Here is the video of the fight in its entirety
