IBF super featherweight champion Rances Barthelemy will make his first defense against Argentina’s Fernando Saucedo on Oct. 4. Leon Margules, Warriors Boxing promoter, confirmed the fight with ESPN.com.
Barthelemy (20-0, 12 KOs), won his title back in July, defeating Argenis Mendez in their rematch from January, which ended in a no contest after Mendez’ camp was able to prove that the Barthelemy’s knockout blow came from after the bell.
Saucedo (52-5-3, 8 KOs), comes into the fight on a 14-fight winning streak. Back in June he scored a third-round TKO victory over Luis Armando Juarez.
Margules said that Saucedo is the most talented available fighter who is willing to fight Barthelemy.
“And he is also the highest available guy, No. 3, so we are fighting him. And top 15 and he was the highest available guy, No. 3.”
The fight will likely air on Showtime. Margules said there is a chance it will happen at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn.
