Kell Brook wins IBF title

The United Kingdom has a reason to sing after tonight. One of Britain’s favorite sons Kell Brook shocked the world beating Shawn Porter for the IBF welterweight title.

Porter (24-1-1, 15 KOs) came in quick, head down though he seemed to breath heavily at times while Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) kept out of Porter’s range while using his own to land some clean counters and offense. Brook kept out of Porter’s range while his own to land , preventing the champion to find consistency.

Brook landed several powerful hits in the 11th stanza and finished the fight in an impressive manner. He repeatedly clinched with Porter several times though the referee did not take any points away. Both fighters were also cut – a result of accidental head-butts. The judges scored the fight 114-114, 117-111 and 116-112.

After the fight Brook called out fellow English fighter and former WBA super lightweight title Amir “King” Khan.

“Shawn Porter is a true champion, but I think Khan can get in queue now. I think that the British public needs to see this fight against Khan.”

In addition to Porter vs. Brook, the night featured two other title bouts. Omar Figueroa finished Daniel Estrada in the ninth round to retain his WBC lightweight title while Anthony Dirrell won Sakio Bika’s WBC 168-pound championship.

Also on the main card, undefeated heavyweight Deontay Wilder stopped Jason Gavern after four rounds.
