The WBC has ordered a couple of big fights on tap in the fall or winter.
According to ESPN.com, the organization has ordered heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne to defend his title against Deontay Wilder and junior welterweight title holder to put his belt on the line against Viktor Postol.
Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs) has been staying busy while waiting for his title match against Stiverne, who has been out with a hand injury. Stiverne won the WBC title back in May in his rematch against Chris Arreola. Wilder scored a fourth-round Jason Gavern. The fight could take place in November or December.
Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs), is coming off a second-round KO win over Rod Salka. Postol got his title shot after he knocked out Selcuk Aydin in the 11th round back in May. There was speculation that Lamont Peterson would face Garcia – the two verbally agreed to fight each other – however that appears to be out the window.
The WBC notified camps that the should begin negotiations. If they don’t reach deals then purse bids will take place, Sept. 12 – which is the date for the rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana.
